Beyond his respected writing and publishing, Wilfred Huggins was also a versatile card worker who published several decades of effects and techniques in various magic journals.
The C-N-H System – the initials stand for Charlier, Nikola, and Huggins – is a scarce and very brief booklet, originally published in London in 1936 by Harry Leat, that explains the author’s clever system for combining Charlier’s punched marks with Louis Nikola’s groundbreaking prearranged deck order, permitting many subtle mysteries. When a selection is removed from a spread, for example, the performer, without looking, can secretly identify the chosen card using touch alone by feeling the position of the punched mark on the previous card to determine which card in the stack has been removed.
Our facsimile reprint has an actual-size image of the printed punch-mark template that Huggins provided in a pocket in the back of the book, so you’ll be able to trace our reproduction and make your own punched deck using just a normal straight pin.
For your convenience, we’ve also included a listing of Nikola’s original prearranged-deck order so you won’t have to waste time hunting for it from another source.
