During his silent film career, Houdini published a trio of brief movie treatments. Il Mistero di Osiris, or The Mystery of the Jewel (or “Jewel-Talisman,” as the title page says) is one of these preliminary story sketches meant to protect the copyright in the event that the concept made it to the big screen.
The 18-page booklet weaves a mystic tale of adventure in Cairo featuring a hypnotic jewel. It’s a good story, and you’ll have fun trying to envision Houdini in the role.
Our facsimile reproduces the 1919 first edition from the Joe Notaro Collection. Like our other reprints, we haven’t re-typeset the text, so you can see the actual original pages.
