Dr. James W. Elliott (1874-1920), a former physician, was renowned in his time as the “world champion card manipulator” and was one of the magicians who played “Bosco” in the illusion trio LeRoy, Talma, and Bosco. He left a heap of notes upon his 1920 death, which Houdini and his friend Clinton Burgess apparently compiled and edited into this 1923 book.

The book opens with a four-page introduction by Houdini, along with a detailed index, a preface by Burgess, and a biographical essay about Elliott. The card material includes palms, passes, gimmicks, prearrangement, stacking sequences, Elliott’s marking system, and full routines. You’ll also find abundant close-up ideas, stage effects, illusions, tips, and recommended music lists, plus a few items by Elliott’s fellow performer Welsh Miller.
