Houdini sold this large-format booklet at his shows as he began his career in the 1890s. Inside it’s titled “H. Houdini’s Magic Book” and contains more than fifteen beginners’ effects plus ads for tricks and books that the reader could order from the enterprising author.
Magic Made Easy opens with Houdini’s introduction and is filled with charming period woodcuts and engravings alongside classic quaint typography. The text also includes hints for amateurs, a simple prearranged-deck effect, and an early Buffalo Courier clipping about a Houdini police-station multiple-restraint escape, “Remarkable Skill: Magician Houdini Gave Headquarters Officials an Exhibition That Made Them Marvel.”
