In 1926, Houdini testified about his crusade against fortune-telling before a U.S. House of Representatives subcommittee about a proposed law banning divinatory pros in Washington D.C. The Government Printing Office published a long report transcribing the exact full-length testimony of Houdini, his colleague Rose Mackenberg, and various fortune-tellers.

These precise transcriptions are among the longest existing passages of Houdini speaking, and his often-contentious conversations with the politicians and the colorful witnesses are fascinating. In these eye-opening records, Houdini grandstands and rambles as the congressmen vainly try to keep him focused on the bill they’re considering.

Our facsimile reproduces the 1926 first edition from the Karr Collection. Like our other reprints, we haven’t re-typeset the text, so you can see the actual original pages.
