Just after Harry Houdini’s death, his widow Beatrice Houdini allowed Stoll and Edwards publishing company in New York to release a colorful book of magic for beginners, subtitled “Fascinating Puzzles, Tricks, and Mysterious Stunts Selected by Houdini, the World’s Greatest Magician.”

As the introductory essay states, “It was the intention of Mr. Houdini to write a forward for this book but the famous magician broke his last shackles before he had the opportunity to do so.”

This large-format 32-page book has a biographical essay and over 65 effects and stunts, all illustrated with charming 1920s-style pen-and-ink artwork. The charming vintage cover features Houdini making white rabbits leap from a guest’s pocket at a party.

Our facsimile reproduces the 1927 first edition from the Karr Collection. Like our other reprints, we haven’t re-typeset the text, so you can see the actual original pages.
